Firat University Veterinary Faculty Animal Hospital
Built in 1998, Fırat University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital is the most established animal hospital in the region with its infrastructure and trained staff, providing services for small and large animals.
Animal hospital clinical services are provided by four clinics consisting of Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Reproduction and Artificial Insemination Departments. There are 21 faculty members and 10 research assistants who are experts in their fields in these departments, as well as around 60 master's and doctoral students. All clinical services are provided by faculty members and their assistants working in the animal hospital.
The small animal clinic within the hospital has 3 examination rooms, 2 isolation units, one for dogs and the other for cats, 2 operation rooms where surgeries are performed, separate intensive care and hospitalization units for cats and dogs, and a dental unit. These rooms and units provide services with world-class equipment. In addition, digital x-ray, ultrasonography, color doppler ultrasonography are used in the diagnosis of diseases in the radiodiagnostic unit.
In the large animal clinic, there are 3 examination rooms used for the examination of ruminants, 1 ruminant operation room, 1 horse examination room, 1 horse operation room, separate isolation units for horses and ruminants, hospitalization unit, intensive care unit and 2 boxes where post-operative care is provided for horses. There are also 3 imaging units with digital x-ray, ultrasound, color doppler ultrasound, endoscopy, arthroscopy and computerized tomography.
There is a Central Diagnostic Laboratory serving all clinics within the animal hospital. Blood gas, hematology, biochemical etc. analyses are performed on all animals by the laboratory technicians on duty.
Polyclinic services for external diseases of all domestic and wild animals are provided by the faculty members and assistants of the Department of Surgery. In addition to soft tissue and orthopedic surgical operations for large and small animals, soft tissue, orthopedics, eye, ear and dental diseases are diagnosed and treated within the hospital. In addition, in the radiodiagnostic unit within the department of surgery; Digital X-ray, ultrasonography, color doppler ultrasonography, computerized tomography units are used in the diagnosis of diseases.
In large and small animals, preventive medicine and vaccination, dermatological, cardiological, endocrinological, gastroenterological, hematological, nephrological-urological, neurological, respiratory system, infectious etc. diseases are examined, diagnosed and treated by the faculty members and assistants of the Department of Internal Medicine. In addition, exotic animal diseases are diagnosed and treated.
In large and small animals, pregnancy diagnosis, birth, puerperal period and problems, infertility and sterility, gynecological operations, udder health and diseases, milking and hygiene, and udder health control programs are provided by the faculty members and assistants of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition, providing services to animal owners who apply to the hospital with a request for neutering, especially in female cats and dogs, is among the important functions of the clinic.
The teaching staff and assistants of the Department of Fertilization and Artificial Insemination provide services for the diagnosis of estrus, synchronization of estrus, and artificial insemination (artificial insemination) in small and large female animals using different methods. The examination of male genital organs in large and small male animals, diagnosis of their diseases and their treatments are also performed. In addition, the Andrology Laboratory, which is authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry within the hospital, approves the production and marketing of frozen sperm straws belonging to different animal species by the staff of this department.
The services provided by the clinical departments in our hospital are provided during working hours. Outside of working hours, we have an Emergency Clinic where services are provided by on-call officers and faculty members.
Within the framework of the protocol signed with animal lovers and some district municipalities, the examination and treatment of stray animals brought to our hospital are also performed. In this respect, our hospital reaches and provides services not only to domestic and owned animals but also to all animals in need of treatment. On the other hand, within the scope of the protocol made with the Elazığ Provincial Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, sick wild animals brought to our hospital by institution officials are examined and treated and then released into nature.
